Drury Panthers Take Conference Opener From Truman Tennis

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Drury Panthers downed the Bulldog Tennis teams 5-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both schools on Friday afternoon. Truman returns to the courts on Sunday as they host Quincy University at 11 a.m. in another GLVC West battle.

The match was shortened to the first to five as rain interrupted the doubles matches and windy, cold conditions hampered overall play.

In the ladies match, Drury took number one and number three doubles by identical 8-1 scores. In the number two match, Lauren Jin and Maura Dunn battled Hadeil Ali and Larissa Karl to an 8-3 conclusion in favor of DU.

The Panthers needed only two singles victories to complete the victory and got them at number one where Ali defeated Jin 7-5, 6-1 and at number three with Samanta Zambrano defeating Lindsey Schlichting 6-3, 6-0.

The men's dual followed a similar path to a Drury victory. The Panthers claimed number one and two doubles by scores of 8-2 while at number three; Paul Province and Austin Buck were edged out 8-6 by Trevor Bachus and Damien Minguez.

Province was defeated in number two singles 6-1, 6-2 and Gavin Hatter fell in number three singles 6-1, 6-0.
