ROLLA, Mo.  – A bases loaded walk drawn by Dave Gambino and some strong relief work by Peter Young helped the Bulldog baseball team avoid the sweep in their four-game series with Missouri S&T. The Miners won game one 3-1 but Truman took the finale 4-3. The Bulldogs return home for a non-conference single game against Illinois Springfield on Tuesday with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.

Game 1 Recap:
The Miners scored single runs in the first three innings and won their third straight in the series 3-1 in the opener.

Keith Coulson continued S&Ts strong pitching with a complete game to earn his sixth win of the season. Coulson allowed six hits and struck out four while the run he gave up in the sixth was unearned.

Brendan Trimble was 2-for-3 and had the RBI single to center in the sixth but the Bulldogs stranded two runners in that frame and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh with two outs before Mason King lined out to second to end the game.

Eli Miller had an RBI single in the first that put S&T up and Cameron Burk had an RBI base hit in the second for the 2-0 lead.  Lance Portwood doubled to left center to plate the third run of the game.

Alex Hoffmann took the loss going five innings allowing three runs on eight hits.

Game 2 Recap:
Jason Priest started the scoring in game two with a two-out RBI that scored Nick Agliolo in the third.

The Miners responded as the first four hitters reached in their half of the inning but the Bulldogs were able to cut down the first runner at home before an RBI single by Justus Nelson tied the game and put runners at the corners with one out. Mark Roberts started the 1-6-3 twin killing off the bat of Miller to end the threat.

Nelson singled and scored to lead off the sixth inning to put S&T up 2-1 but again Truman was able to cut down a runner at the plate and escaped the inning allowing just the one run as S&T left a pair on.

Adam Gregorich singled to start Truman's seventh and went to second when the Miners tried to throw him out on a sac bunt by Joey Gardner and it sailed allowing both runners to reach. A wild pitch moved both into scoring position and T.J. Wood worked a 1-2 count to a walk to load the bases.

After a pitching change, Mason King drew a walk to bring in Gregorich with the tying run and pinch runner Josh Abegg scored on a double-play ball off the bat of Nick Agliolo for the 3-2 lead.

Tyler Bodenstab doubled in Lucas Swindle to tie things up but the Bulldogs then threw their third runner out at the plate for the game when Nelson singled to right and King came up throwing out Bodenstad to preserve the tie. Matt Tometz came in to relieve Roberts and walked his first batter and gave up an infield single to load the bases.

Peter Young squelched the rally by getting Tyler Johnson to fly out to center.

Both teams went in order in the eighth.

Gregorich led off the ninth with a single through the right side and was sacrificed up to second by Wyatt Fones. S&T went to their closer, Ethan Krenning who promptly walked three of the four batters he faced including Dave Gambino with the bases loaded to score Gregorich and give Truman the lead.

Young gave up a leadoff single to Adam Richter but got three straight popouts to end the game.
