RECAP: Bats Get Hot As Truman Earns Day Two Split With Lewis

Game 1 Box Score (HTML)
Game 2 Box Score (HTML)

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Truman Baseball team got the lumber heated up and had 20 hits to salvage the final game of their four game series with Lewis University on Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs were held to two hits in the opener as they fell 4-1 but got three hits apiece from five different players in a 13-4 victory in game two.

Truman will play another non-conference game on Wednesday when they host Southwest Baptist University for a single nine-inning affair starting at 2 p.m.

Game 1 Recap:
Dalton Hottle allowed just two hits over the course of six-plus innings to shutdown the Bulldogs 4-1 in the opener. Hottle's first hit surrendered was a solo home run by Chris Iliopoulos in the fifth inning.

That homer tied the game at one apiece momentarily.

A leadoff double in the bottom of the inning by Ryan Schefske was followed by an RBI single from Brandon Collins to break the tie. Two batters later, Kenny King homered to right center to push the Flyers lead to 4-1.

Jason Priest picked up an infield single in the seventh but was stranded at third base with Charlie Wright earning the save.

Hottle fanned six and walked one to get the win while Alex Hoffmann took the loss for Truman.

Game 2 Recap:
The bats came alive in game four of the series but the Bulldogs had to face adversity again.

Truman jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a sac fly by Jason Priest in the first, a run-scoring fielders choice by Trevor Bell and a bases loaded hit by pitch to Charlie Kreh in the second and a solo shot by Chris Iliopoulos in the third.

The Flyers evened things up with a four-run fourth inning to chase starter Brad Molski and reliever Tanner Forck.

The Bulldogs big inning came in the fifth as 10 hitters came to the dish. The frame started with a single by Kreh followed by a two-run homer by Priest to right field. The next three reached with Wyatt Fones picking up an RBI single and Brendan Trimble knocking in Fones for the 8-4 lead.

Truman got three more runs, aided by a pair of errors in the seventh and added two on Iliopoulos' second round tripper of the game and third of the day in the ninth.

In addition to Iliopoulos, four other Truman players had three hits on the afternoon. Josh Abegg was 3-for-5, Brendan Trimble was 3-for-6, Jason Priest was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Nick Agliolo was 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

It was the fifth time Truman had topped 20 hits in a game in school history and most since they had 20 at Southwest Baptist in 2014. The school mark for hits is 28 against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in 1982.

Kent Frantz got the win in relief for the Bulldogs tossing five scoreless innings and striking out a pair. Peter Young wrapped things up with a shutout ninth inning.
