RECAP: Bulldog Tennis Drops League Opener To Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – In the conference opener for both teams, the Truman Tennis teams lost to Quincy University on Sunday afternoon by identical 6-3 scores.

In the men's match, Paul Province and Gavin Hatter took number two by an 8-4 score to even the match at one team point apiece. The number three match needed a tie-break with Griffin Turnage and Nick Thiele falling 9-8 (7-4) which allowed the Hawks to take the early lead into singles.

Hatter rallied to win number two singles over Danyil Vayser 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Turnage won in straight sets over Michael Lesko at number four singles 7-5, 6-3.

Conner Frazier won his first set at number five but then lost 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) to Wyatt Pauley.

The Truman women also trailed 2-1 out of doubles with Lindsey Schlichting and Marisa Thome winning their fifth straight and ninth overall doubles match at number two by a 9-8 (7-2) score.

That twosome were also responsible for the singles points for the Bulldogs with Thome winning 6-1, 6-4 at number two and Schlichting shutting out Rebecca McIsaac 6-0, 6-0 at number three.

The women will play on Friday against Maryville University before joining the men for a double-dual with Missouri-St. Louis. All matches will take place in the St. Louis area.
