KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Entering its final home matches of the 2018 season, the Truman State University men's soccer team has work to do if it hopes to be one of the eight teams that make the GLVC Tournament. Friday, the Bulldogs will host No. 15 Indianapolis before welcoming in Bellarmine on Sunday's Senior Day.
Indianapolis, the league's only team ranked in the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches poll, enters this week with an overall record of 9-2-1, which includes a mark of 5-2-1 in conference play. After a 6-0 start to the season, the Greyhounds have gone 3-2-1 in their last six and both losses were by one goal (1-0 and 3-2).
Bellarmine (5-5-1, 4-3-1 GLVC) has won three of its last four matches, but four of its five total losses have come on the road. While Indianapolis is currently tied for third in the GLVC standings with Illinois Springfield, the Knights are stuck in a three-way tie for fifth along with McKendree and Quincy.
When breaking down these two opponents, we'll start with Indianapolis. The Greyhounds have surrendered just seven goals in their 12 matches, which is good for first in the league. With that being said, they only have 18 saves, so not only is Miles Palmer doing well in goal, his back line has been up to the task. Offensively, Indianapolis' 24 goals are third in the conference.
As for Bellarmine, it is a middle-of-the-road team on both ends of the field. The Knights are seventh in goals allowed with 16 and ninth in goals scored with 15. Individually, Bellarmine's Micah Linscott and Indianapolis' Josh Mahon are both tied for seventh in the GLVC in goals scored with five.
Prior to the start of Sunday's match, the men's program will recognize its seven seniors. Those seven Bulldogs are
Tristyn Hasmer,
Danny Alter,
Trevor Kaufmann,
Sean Appelbaum,
Ben Rosenblatt,
Austin Morgan, and
Michael Ruzicka.
