Womens Tennis Begins Season At Webster Invitational

ST. LOUIS – The Truman Women's Tennis team began their fall season at the Webster University Invitational in St. Louis this past weekend.

Kayla Peterson was the champion of the Flight C Singles bracket after going 3-0 over the weekend. Peterson won her first match when Jenna Dobyns retired in the second set with Peterson taking the first set 6-1. She rallied from a set down in the semifinals to down Haley Milazzo of Quincy 1-6, 6-2, 10-6. In the championship match, she defeated Quincy's Alexia Ginter in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Peterson and doubles partner Finessa Rassel took the B Flight doubles championship winning both of their matches.

Rassel battled to the consolation final of the B singles bracket. After an opening 7-6, 6-1 win, Rassel was defeated in straight sets in the semifinals by Abby Moore of Quincy. She returned to defeat Nahir Montoya of Lindenwood-Belleville 6-0, 6-4 but lost 8-6 in the consolation championship 8-6 to Anna Konczak of Quincy.

Morgan Ebby and Maura Dunn competed in the top singles and doubles flight in the tournament. As a tandem, the team won their first two matches before falling 8-2 in the doubles final to Laila Les-Alston and Nicole Lao of Quincy.

Individually, Ebby went 1-2 in the draw with a win over Teah Flynn of Lindenwood-Belleville.

Dunn picked up wins in her first two matches to advance to the finals. She won in straight sets over Sara Rice of Webster and in a marathon three-setter over Lao of Quincy 3-6, 7-5, 13-11. In the championship, Dunn was defeated by Lest-Alston 6-1, 6-0.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Quincy Women's Tournament on September 14-15.
