KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—Coming off a weekend that featured their first two losses in conference, the Truman men's soccer team will look to get back in the win column as they go back on the road for games at Lewis and Illinois Springfield.
The Bulldogs couldn't find the back of the net in their two matches this past weekend, falling 3-0 at Indy and 1-0 at home to Bellarmine. Prior to those two, they had not been shut out in seven matches; going back to last season. They had also scored multiple goals in six of those seven matches.
Freshman Joey Keane has started the last three matches in net, posting a victory over William Jewell and then setting a career high nine saves in the loss to Bellarmine. Off to a 3-2 start in conference play, the team has already eclipsed their win total in conference games from a season ago and is seeking their first winning conference record since 2012 (as a member of the MIAA).
Lewis is winless in their last three matches after starting 5-0. They drew at Lindenwood and at Missouri S&T, and in between lost 1-0 to #6 Maryville. They have had eight different players score goals for them this season, led by Jimmy Mwanga and Oliwer Mattasson each with a pair. Goalkeeper C.J. Couper has allowed four goals in eight matches and has a .871 save percentage on the year. As a team Lewis is second in the GLVC in goals against average.
Illinois Springfield has only one win in their last five matches following a 2-1 start. They rank seventh in goals against average in the GLVC but second last in goals scored. Mario Falsone has two goals on the season and Adrian Ortega has two assists, both team highs. Pijus Petkevicius has been in net all eight matches and has made 29 saves on 39 shots against.
After these matches, TSU will return home for matches against Drury on October 11 and Southwest Baptist on October 13. Both matches will start at noon.
