KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman men's soccer team will hit the pitch at home against Drury and Southwest Baptist this weekend, looking to break a current four game losing streak. The two teams come to Truman Soccer Park, for noon matches.
The Truman attack has gone quiet in the current streak, with the goal by
Matt Yankowitz against Illinois Springfield being their only goal in those four matches. It was the team's first goal since Yankowitz scored the game winner against William Jewell on September 22
nd. It was one of his two game winning goals on the season, the other coming against Quincy.
During the first five matches of the season, the Bulldogs scored nine times—with
Jeff Masters bagging goals against Quincy and William Jewell; with
Collin McDonough,
Andrew Brennan,
Jake Koenig and
Mateo Montano also getting on the score sheet.
Roy Hart leads the team with 13 saves in four starts, allowing just 1.04 goals per game.
Drury has the upper hand in the series against the Bulldogs, winning five of six in the GLVC era with a 2-2 draw coming last year in Springfield. The Panthers are also coming off a 4-0 win over Southern Indiana this past weekend, which followed back to back losses against Rockhurst and McKendree. In ten games, they have scored 21 goals, led by Jamie O'Brien with nine—the most in the conference. Trevor Cairns and Adem Hamdaoua both have four assists, in an eight way tie for the conference lead. In goal Yannick Lamers has made all ten starts, and is allowing just 1.6 goals per game.
However, the Bulldogs have had good fortunes against SBU, winning the last three matchups (as GLVC opponents) by a combined score 13-2. In last year's win Yankowitz set a career high with three goals and assisted on another. Isaiah Waddy leads the team with four goals and Javier Munoz leads with three assists. Owen Luscombe has made 34 saves in his six starts this season. The Bearcats defeated William Jewell for their lone win of the season on September 29
th.
After this weekend, the team will head to Rolla to take on Missouri S&T next Friday at 7:30 p.m. and top ten nationally ranked Maryville in St. Louis on Sunday, October 20
th at 2:30 p.m.
