RECAP: Softball Wins Ninth Straight; Reisinger Breaks Stolen Base Record

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Ten days ago, the Truman State University softball team was 16-10 overall, 4-9 in GLVC play and staring down the barrel of a season-worst four-game losing streak. Fast forward to Monday and the Bulldogs have reeled off nine-straight victories for their longest winning streak since that many back in 2016. With that being said, the 2016 squad won its nine in a row in March and these Bulldogs are doing it in April with the GLVC Tournament right around the corner. Monday, McKendree represented Truman's latest victim as the Bulldogs won with scores of 4-0 and 13-0 in five innings.

Truman's nine-game winning streak is tied with 16th-ranked Indianapolis for the longest in the GLVC while catapulting its overall record to 25-10, including 11-9 in league action. On the other side, McKendree (18-26, 3-15 GLVC) has dropped six in a row and seven of its last nine.

Diving deeper into the last nine games, Truman has outscored its opponents 67-6 in that span while hitting .376 with 86 hits in its 229 at-bats. The Bulldogs have also slugged .559, reached base 44 percent of the time and stolen 25 bags in 26 attempts. Ten of those steals have come from Christa Reisinger who, while being named GLVC Player of the Week for the seventh time in her career on Monday, was breaking Christen Belcher's (2005-08) career stolen base record of 153. Reisinger swiped four more bags on Monday to give her 157 for her career.

Pitching wise, Truman's staff has more than handled itself in that same nine-game span. In 55 innings of work, Bulldog hurlers have given up just four earned runs for a ridiculous ERA of 0.51 and a batting average against of just .140. Truman's team ERA for the season has bumped down to 2.52, which is good for third in the GLVC, and its combined batting average against of .214 is even higher at second.

In just Monday's doubleheader, five Bulldogs racked up multiple hits including Reisinger (3-for-3), Emma Walbert (3-for-6), Alyssa Rivera (3-for-6), Morgan McMahan (3-for-6), and Jaymi Freeman (2-for-6). In the circle, Alyssa Hajduk (12-3) went the distance in game one for her sixth-straight win and seventh complete game of the season. Hajduk has lowered her season ERA to 2.04 (fifth in the GLVC) and opponent batting average to .175, which is the lowest in the league. In the nightcap, Lauren Dale (12-6) and Rachael Kernich teamed up for the five-inning shutout.

Next up, Truman will play its final non-conference games of the regular season on Tuesday when it travels to Central Missouri for a 2 p.m. start in game one.
