Men's Soccer

PREVIEW: Men's Soccer Home Opener vs. Quincy

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—After splitting the first two games of their season, the men's soccer team plays their first home game and first conference game on Sunday against Quincy. The Bulldogs are looking to get off the skids against the Hawks, who have won seven straight in the series.

This will be just the third game played at Truman since 2010. Previous meetings in Kirksville were a 1-1 draw in 2010 and a 2-1 loss for Truman in 2015. Truman's one win in that time frame came in 2011, a 2-1 win at Quincy. Overall, Truman is tied 12-12-4 against Quincy all-time.

So far this season the team has four different players with a goal—Mateo Montano and Collin McDonough scored in the opener against Northwood, Matt Yankowitz and Andrew Brennan scored in the win over Purdue Northwest. Through two games the team has 16 shots with eight on net. Thus far they have allowed four goals (as many as they have scored), and 17 shots with ten on goal. Keeper Roy Hart has six saves through two games—including five in the win over PNU.

The Bulldogs have been a second half team through two games, scoring three of their four goals, taking 13 of 16 shots and eight of nine corner kicks in the second half of games.

Last year Quincy finished 8-9-2 overall with a 7-4-2 mark in conference play. A key returner this season is redshirt junior midfielder Aubrey Reis, who scored 15 goals last season to lead the team. He is still seeking his first goal this year, and redshirt sophomore midfielder Alsadiq Hasan leads the team with two goals so far this season.

After Sunday, the Bulldogs will begin a run of three straight games on the road as they take on Rockhurst in Kansas City on the 20th, followed by William Jewell on the 22nd in Liberty, Mo. On the 27th they will take on Indianapolis in the capital of the Hoosier State before coming home to take on Bellarmine in their final match of September.
