KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Volleyball team has started the season 1-2 and has one match this week: headed to Kansas City to take on #5 Rockhurst Friday. The scheduled match with #6 Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday was postponed due to issues within the Tritons program. Rockhurst was ranked #5 in this week's AVCA poll after a 2-1 start to this campaign, following their run to the Final Four a season ago.
Last week the Bulldogs dropped their home opener to Quincy 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22). Lindsay Woltering set a career high with 24 digs, while Ellie Kaat racked up 11 kills and 11.5 points to lead the team in both categories. Rachel DeFries had her second career double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs, one of three players with double digits in two categories--Morgan Smith had ten kills and 15 digs and Sam Yancy had ten kills with 11 digs.
Truman ranks fourth in the GLVC in blocks per set with 2.42 and Ainsley Heise leads the conference individually with 1.82 blocks per set, and 20 total (2 solo, 18 assisted). Emma Berthold is tied for third in the conference with 1.5 blocks per set.
As a team Truman is hitting .158 on the season and averaging 10.7 kills per set. With 18.3 digs per set, Truman is second in the conference. Woltering is fifth the GLVC individually with 5.1 digs per set.
DeFries leads the team with 55 assists, and newcomer Katy Motz is not far behind with 47. The two both have two service aces as well, in a three way with Heise for the most on the team.
Rockhurst has begun their season 2-1 with victories over Drury and William Jewell, while suffering a loss to Missouri S&T. Audrey Arand and Kenzie Hines lead the attack with 41 kills between the two of them; both are averaging over three kills per set. As a team the Hawks are hitting .181 through three matches.
On the 20th, the Bulldogs will be back in action as they travel to Springfield, Ill. to take on Missouri S&T and Illinois Springfield in their first of five dates with multiple matches.
