St. Cloud Takes Morning Doubleheader From Truman Softball

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Truman Softball team was shutout in a pair of morning games to St. Cloud State on Saturday. The Bulldogs fell 17-0 in the opener and 8-0 in game two to fall to 2-2 on the season. They will face Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. for two more games.

St. Cloud's Sydney LaPoint struck out 10 Bulldogs and didn't allow a hit in a 17-0 romp in the opener.

Macy Taylor was the only Bulldog to reach via error in the top of the first inning but she was stranded at second after stealing the base.

The Huskies blew things open with a seven-run second inning and followed it up with six in the third and four in the fourth. They bashed out 15 hits and were also aided by three Truman errors.

Annabel Zimmer took the loss to even her season record at 1-1, allowing five runs on only three hits.

The Huskies scored in every frame while again silencing the Truman bats in an 8-0 decision.

The Bulldogs put two runners on in the top of the first with Maria McGonegle singling and Cameryn Patterson reaching via hit by pitch with one out. A fielder's choice moved McGonegle to third but she was left there when Mackayla Gordon was struck out.

A leadoff trip from SCSU came in to score the game's first run in the Huskies half of the first.

The Huskies scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings, a single run in the fourth and two more to end the game early in the fifth.

Breianna Klein was on base twice for the Bulldogs with a single in the second and drew a walk in the fourth. Callie Unrein also singled and stole a base.

Nicole Havel fell to 0-1 on the season allowing eight runs, five earned on seven hits with one strikeout.
