ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Two hard luck losses by the Bulldog Softball team ended their opening weekend. Truman fell 5-4 in the opener on a walk-off single and stranded the tying runner at third base in an 8-7 loss both to Southwest Minnesota State. The Bulldogs wrapped up the weekend 2-4 and are next scheduled to take the field February 26 in Topeka, Kansas.

The Mustangs overcame a 4-1 deficit to walk off a victory over the Bulldogs 5-4 in the first game on Sunday morning.
 
A reenergized Bulldog team jumped on top 2-0 in the top of the first inning with McKenzie West and Breianna Klein each delivering two-out RBI singles in the frame.
 
SWMS got a run back in their half of the first on an RBI double but Truman answered right back in the second with two more. Taylor Spencer led off with a single and Maria McGonegle later walked setting up a two-run base hit from Cameryn Patterson to make it 4-1.
 
The first two reached in the Mustangs' third inning, they would plate two runs on three hits, and left the bases loaded to close the gap to 4-3. They would tie things up with a two-out RBI single in the fourth.
 
The Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the fifth.
 
A lead-off single followed by a sacrifice bunt put the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh. With two-outs and the bases loaded, Bailey Johnson got the walk-off single for the win
 
Annabel Zimmer pitched the complete game for Truman with eight strikeouts, four walks while on the offensive side, Patterson, and Spencer each collected a pair of hits.

The Mustangs built on their momentum from game one and raced out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half.
 
The Bulldogs chipped away with Breianna Klein scoring on a passed ball in the second and McKenzie West tripling and scoring on an RBI single by Mackayla Gordon in the third.
 
In the fifth, Macy Taylor led off with a single and stole second. Cameryn Patterson brought her in with an RBI single. West followed with a double. Mackayla Gordon hit a sac fly to left to make it 5-4 and Klein then doubled to bring home West to tie the game at five.
 
An error to start the top of the seventh led to three unearned runs by Southwest Minnesota State. Lileya Kebos broke the tie with a double then Kaylee Hentges scored two more runs with a two-out single.
 
Truman tried to rally in their last at bat. Gordon drew a one-out walk and was pinch ran for by Kayla Quanstrum. Klein singed and Lauren Stade doubled to bring in one run. Logan Blevins pinch hit and grounded out but Klein scored to make it 8-7 with Stade moving up to third with two outs. Shelby Webster flied out to right to end the game.
 
Klein went 3-for-3 with two runs scored with Taylor, West and Patterson each with two hits apiece.
 
Klein pitched the final six innings in relief but was tagged with the loss.
