KIRKSVILLE, Mo. In a true "team win" the Truman State Tennis team edged St. Mary's (Kan.) on Tuesday by a 4-3 score. The squad will face Missouri Valley on October 17 at home.
The doubles point proved pivotal in the dual as Sydney Dial and Nayana Malangi won 6-2 at number one and Finley Laforge and Alayna Dostal grabbed a 6-1 win at number three to secure the point.
The Spires evened the score with a win at number two singles.
The Bulldogs went up 2-1 at number four singles with Worster pulling out a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win.
The match was tied again winning in straight sets at number three singles.
Dostal dropped her opening set 3-6 but rallied to win the second 6-2 to force a tiebreaker and she would win that 10-5 to put Truman up 3-2.
Needing one more point, Cora Wood found what was needed to force a tie breaking set after falling 6-4 in the first and winning 6-1 in the second. She would win 10-1 in the third to secure the team vicory.
The final match on the court was at number one and again, a third super tiebreaker was needed, this time the St. Mary's player edged out Dial 2-6, 7-5, 10-2.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-2 on the season.
