Chapman Logs Hat Trick in Overtime Victory

Box Score | Season Stats

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - - Senior forward Andy Chapman capped off a hat trick with the game-winner five minutes into overtime, and the Truman men's soccer team notched its sixth win of 2012 with a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday.

Chapman (St. Louis, Mo., Fort Zumwalt South) and fellow senior Charlie Backus (St. Louis, Mo., CBC) connected twice on the day for Truman's first and last goals, as Chapman picked up his second career three-bagger. He got the scoreboard going in the 21st minute off a Backus pass before IWC (3-7) stunned the 'Dogs with two in ten minutes before the half for a 2-1 advantage.

However, Chapman scored in the 55th, corralling a pass from Matt Langley (Maryville, Ill., Collinsville) and scoring to knot the match at 2-2 before ending the match with an exclamation point in the fifth minute of OT.

Drew Garrone (Chesterfield, Mo., Lafayette) made five saves in net, as IWC outshot the Bulldogs 18-15 overall. However, Truman had the edge on goal, 11-7.

The Bulldogs played their final regular season road game in the match and will return home to kick off a five-match MIAA homestand on Thursday (Oct. 11) against Fort Hays State at 3:00 pm.
