Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman men's soccer team scored three goals in seven minutes in the first half and rode the momentum to a 3-1 home victory on Saturday afternoon against Westminster (Mo.).

Matt Langley (Maryville, Ill., Collinsville) got the scoring going in the 23rd minute when he headed in a Charlie Backus (St. Louis, Mo., CBC) free kick to the top right corner of the net. For Langley, it marked his team-leading second goal of the season.

Then, just 1:22 later, Truman's Dylan Carter (O'Fallon, Mo., Fort Zumwalt West) played a ball across the front of the goal mouth and saw it deflect off a Blue Jay defender into the back of the net for an own goal. Moments later in the 30th minute, the Blue Jays gave Truman another free tally, misplaying a bouncing ball in the box and kicking it into their own net for a 3-0 Bulldog lead.

WC would get on the board with a penalty kick goal in the 58th minute, but that was the only blemish of the day for Bulldog keeper Nick Wallner (St. Louis, Mo., SLU High), who made three saves in his 90 minutes of work.

Truman out-shot the Blue Jays 9-4 on target and earned two corners to just one for Westminster.

The Bulldogs (1-2) face a quick turnaround and will travel to Belleville, Ill., on Sunday afternoon for a 4:00 pm match against Lindenwood-Belleville.
