KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – For the first time in program history, the Truman Baseball team has back-to-back 20-win seasons after splitting a doubleheader with Missouri Western on Tuesday. Truman won game one 4-3 but lost the nightcap 14-1.

It is only the third time that a Truman squad has won over 20 games (1999, 2014 and 2015) in a season.

The Bulldogs return back to GLVC action on Friday as they travel to Springfield, Missouri and a four-game series with the Drury Panthers.

Game 1 Recap: After scoring four runs and making Missouri Western change pitchers twice in the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs had to sweat out the final out to earn their 20th win of the season.

Truman sent all nine hitters to the plate in the first inning. Zak Larkin led things off with a single up the middle after fouling three straight pitches off. Jarod Hahn drew a full count and walked.

Brendan Trimble loaded the bases with a single. Blake Deaton grounded out to third that brought home Larkin for the 1-0 lead. Chris Iliopoulos walked on four pitches and Adam Gregorich singled to right scoring two more and chasing starting pitcher Mike Calimeno. An error scored Iliopoulos for the 4-0 lead.

Alex Hoffmann held the Griffons to three hits through the first four innings and got the first two outs in the fifth before running into trouble. Corbin Duffy hit a solo home run and the Griffs added three straight singles to plate another run to cut the lead in half.

Hoffmann worked out of a jam in the sixth leaving runners at second and third with one out before giving way to Mark Roberts in the seventh.

Roberts made his first relief appearance since March 26 of 2014 and hit the first batter he faced and gave up a single to leadoff hitter Orencio Fisher. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position. Ryan Denger made it a one-run game with a sac fly to right but Roberts notched his first save and got Hoffmann his fourth win when he got cleanup hitter Mitch Thorman to fly out to end the game.

Game 2 Recap: Paul Trenhaile's 200th career hit gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning but Missouri Western's offense exploded with 14 straight runs in the 14-1 game two rout.

Trenhaile singled in T.J. Wood with two outs to stake Nate Lukas to a 1-0 lead however the Griffons loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. Cody Childs took a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for a 4-1 Western lead.

Western added two more in the fourth and scored four each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Orencio Fisher collected four hits in five at bats while driving in three out of his leadoff spot for the Griffons.

Weston Caindec pitched five innings and got the win and Lukas was tagged with the loss for Truman.
