RECAP: Truman Softball Falters In Season Debut

INDIANAPOLIS – The Truman Softball team began a new era on Saturday with two tough losses to open the season at the Midwest Crossover held in Indianapolis on Saturday. The Bulldogs fell 10-5 to Ferris State and 4-1 to West Virginia State.
 
The team will be back at it on Sunday with games against Ohio Dominican and Northwood.
 
During Saturday's doubleheader, Cameryn Patterson had the hot bat for the Bulldogs going 5-of-7 (.714) with a double and two runs scored.  Adrienne Compton had three hits on opening day and drove in three runs.
 
Truman led 2-1 after one against Ferris but three costly errors led to six runs in the third and fourth innings. The Bulldogs got back to within two at 7-5 with three of their own in the fifth but Ferris matched those runs in their half of the fifth to win 10-5.
 
West Virginia struck first in game two with a run in the second. The Bulldogs tied the game in the third and it stayed that way until the Yellow Jackets plated two in the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh.
