RECAP: Northern Teams Get Best Of Bulldogs On Day Two

CLEARMONT, Fla. – The Truman Softball team evened their spring break trip record to 2-2 with a pair of losses on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost 6-2 to Minnesota Duluth in the opener and 15-5 to Saginaw Valley State in the nightcap.

The team will get a rest day on Sunday before completing the trip with two more doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday.

Minnesota-Duluth Box Score

Cameryn Patterson took the second pitch of the game over the fence to stake the Truman Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead. However the other Bulldogs from Minnesota Duluth got two in their half of the first and a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to race out to a 5-1 lead.
McKenzie West belted her third homer of the season in the fifth to cut the deficit to three but a solo shot in the bottom of the inning gave the run right back to UMD.

Emma Walbert went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

In the circle, Breianna Klein started and went 1.1 innings allowing five runs with a strikeout and a walk issued to fall to 2-2 on the season.

Saginaw Valley St. Box Score

The Cardinals scored in every inning en route to a 15-5 win over the Bulldogs in the second game of the day.

Saginaw led 1-0 after one and took advantage of an extra out in the second inning when Sara Moos hit a three-run homer to make it 5-0. All four runs in the inning were unearned.

A bases clearing double in the third made it 8-0 visitors.

Truman cut the lead in half in their half of the third.

Consecutive singles from Kayla Quanstrum and Cameryn Patterson put two runners on. McKenzie West reach on an error and Emma Walbert got an RBI single. Alyssa Rivera followed with a two-run double to make it 8-4 with no outs. However, the next three hitters struck out.

The Cardinals sent 11 hitters to the plate in the fourth and plated five runs to break the game back open. They would add a pair in the fifth while Truman mustered a run on Adrienne Compton's second double of the game that scored West.

Alyssa Hajduk was tagged with the loss.
