First Pitch:
The 50th season of Truman Baseball will get underway this weekend in Goodwell, Oklahoma as the Bulldogs will face Oklahoma Panhandle State for the first time ever. The teams will play a four-game series with doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday beginning at noon.

The "modern-era" of Bulldog Baseball began in 1966 with several years of the sport being played on the Kirksville campus prior to World War II. It resumed under the direction of Sam Nugent, a recent inductee in the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame, when the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Association started sponsoring a championship.

Last season, the Bulldogs set a new school record with 26 victories and advanced to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament in the first season of GLVC membership. The team hit .289, the highest batting average in over a decade and shattered the school mark in stolen bases with 118, 41 more than the previous mark set in 1999.

The Bulldogs return two second team all-conference performers from a year ago in outfielder Jarod Hahn and first baseman Paul Trenhaile. Hahn it .315 with 34 RBIs and 16 multi-hit games while Trenhaile broke the single-season hit record with 71 and was among the conference leaders with a .378 batting average. Trenhaile enters his senior season third in career batting at Truman at .351, tenth in hits at 154 and 11th in RBIs with 84.

Records Watch:
Paul Trenhaile is already the Truman career leader in total chances (1,209) and putouts (1,122). At the plate, Trenhaile is 43 hits away from the Truman career hits record of 197 and is 38 RBIs away from the top of that stat category.

Larkin is the king of career stolen bases at Truman with 60 and is in the Truman top 10 in runs scored, walks and assists.

About the Aggies:
OPSU has been in action seven times so far this season and have dropped all seven games, all at home. Last weekend, they hosted the OPSU Round Robin where they lost 9-4 and 16-1 to Colorado School of Mines and 9-2 and 5-3 to Newman (Kan.) University.

As a team, they have hit .175 with two home runs and 11 RBIs. Indidviudally, Chase Graf leads the team with a .267 batting average, collecting four hits in 15 at bats.

On the mound, the team has a 7.42 ERA with starters Walker Rainwater, Patrick Gonzales and Samuel Beattie all starting 0-2 on the season.

The Aggies were 12-37 last season and 2-27 in the Great America Conference.

Bulldogs Picked Fourth in GLVC West Preseason Poll:
The GLVC Coaches Poll was released on February 4 with defending national champion Southern Indiana and Quincy (Ill.) picked to win their respective divisions. Southern Indiana sits atop the East Division picking up 14 of 16 first-place votes while Quincy was in a dead heat with Drury (Mo.) for the top spot in the west. The Hawks totaled 113 points to Drury's 112 with each school splitting the eight first-place votes.

The Bulldogs were in a similar heat with Missouri-St. Louis with the Tritons getting the edge and the number three spot in the west with 79 points to Truman's 77.

Truman will play all seven GLVC West Division opponents – William Jewell (Road March 28-29), Rockhurst (Home April 3-4), Drury (Road April 10-12), Missouri S&T (Home April 18-19), Missouri-St. Louis (Road April 25-26), Maryville (Home May 1-3) and Quincy (Home April 1; Road April 14). The Bulldogs will play Southern Indiana on the road to start GLVC play on March 13-15 and McKendree (Ill.) from the East Division at home on March 21-22.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs are slated to open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, February 20 when they host Arkansas-Fort Smith for a four-game weekend series at the Bulldog Baseball Park.
