Aubrey Johnson was recruited from the Missouri bootheel in 1967, an outstanding athlete at Kennett High School. He was to become one of the Bulldogs' best all-time linebackers and also excelled in the high jump on strong university track teams. Mr. Johnson earned four letters in football and track. He was captain of the 1970 Bulldog football team and was named to the Associated Press Little All-American team that year. He was a two-time All-MIAA football selection. He was also selected to Who's Who in College and Universities and was a member of Blue Key Honor Fraternity. After receiving a B.S. degree in psychology and social science in 1971 he was with the Green Bay Packers of the NFL and Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in the summers of 1971 and 1972. While working on a master's degree in 1972-73 at the university, he was on the football and track coaching staffs. From 1973-78 he was director and counseling coordinator, instructor and football coach at Albany State College in Georgia. He left Albany in 1978 to become research assistant to the vice president of academic affairs and was a lecturer at Texas A&M University for the next four years. In 1981 Dr. Johnson went to Austin, Texas, to work in the governor's office for budget and planning. He served as budget examiner and budget coordinator for three years. Dr. Johnson was director of intergovernmental relations for the governor's office from 1984 before becoming manager, training and technical assistant for the department of community affairs for the governor's office. He holds a Ph.D. in Administration with emphasis in higher education from Texas A&M.
