Between 1966-70, Dennis Littrell attended Wheeling (Mo.) High School, where he won the state indoor high-jump championship once, the outdoor title twice and set a state high-jump record in 1970. Mr. Littrell was also an All-Conference and All-District basketball player in high school. He entered the university in 1970, turning down scholarships at Kansas and Missouri. During his four-year Bulldog track career, he earned All-American honors by placing sixth in the 1972 NCAA College Division high-jump. Mr. Littrell finished tenth and eighth, respectively, in the 1973 and 1974 NCAA meets. During his career, he won two conference indoor and two conference outdoor high-jump titles and qualified for the finals three times at the Drake and Kansas Relays. At one time he held the high-jump record at Stokes Stadium. During his career, he helped the Bulldogs win three conference indoor and three conference outdoor titles and the Bulldogs placed third in 1972 and tenth in 1973, respectively, at the NCAA championships. The finish in 1972 has been the highest ever for the Bulldogs at the NCAA meet. After graduating in 1974, Mr. Littrell coached track and field for 18 seasons at Marceline and Lawson High Schools. He coached two individual state champions during that period. Mr. Littrell also coached the Marceline girls basketball team to a second-place state finish in 1975.
