He was also a distance runner on the Bulldog track team, receiving College Division All-American honors in the spring of 1964. After graduation in 1965 he taught physical education at Kratz Elementary School in St. Louis for three years. Then he spent six years at Riverview Gardens High School as track and cross-country coach. Two of his track teams and three of his cross-country teams placed in the top ten at 4-A state high school meets. He coached a couple of state champions: Mark Kimball, two-miler in track and also a cross-country winner, and Randy Hicks, high hurdler in track. Coach Schneider received a master's degree from the university in 1970. He returned to his alma mater in 1974 to direct the cross-country team and assist his college coach, Ken Gardner, with track and has served as the men's track and field/cross country coach since 1984.
