Ron Selkirk

Ron Selkirk, who came to the campus from Alton, Ill., lettered four years in the late 1960's on the most successful teams in the history of Bulldog men's tennis. Mr. Selkirk was the first Bulldog to capture the No. 1 MIAA singles flight, doing it three times. He was a key player on the 1969 team, which came within a point of winning the NCAA College Division title. After his graduation in 1969, he coached tennis at Central High School in St. Joseph until 1974. He teams at Central compiled a 64-4 overall record, and the 1974 squad was the only St. Joseph High School team to win a state championship. He then had an opportunity to move to Sioux Fall, S.D., to become director of tennis and head tennis pro at Wood Lake Racquet Club. He coached tennis two years at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, and both of his teams finished second in the North Central Conference. Two of his players qualified for the NCAA Division II championships. He also coached O'Gorman Catholic High School tennis team to the South Dakota state title. Twice he was named the Outstanding South Dakota High School Coach. In 1980 he became manager and tennis pro at the St. Joseph Tennis and Swim Club.
