Robert Doyle, a native of Shelbina, played football and competed in track for the Bulldogs in the early 1930's. Between 1931-34 he was selected to the All-MIAA football team three times and to the All-State team once. Don Faurot, his coach, described him as a quick, scrappy and intelligent end, despite the fact that he was not very big. He was also an excellent punter and it is said that one of his punts was measured at more than 80 yards. Mr. Doyle competed in the javelin for the Bulldog track team. After graduation in 1935 he was an assistant coach for the freshman team at Missouri under Don Faurot. While at Missouri he received an M.A. degree. He then started a career as a geologist and worked for Shell Oil Company in Midland, TX until 1954. From there he went with Tidewater Oil Company and rose to the position of regional geologist for the West Texas Division. Mr. Doyle was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was voted to the Shell Company All-American team, comprised of employees who were outstanding football players. Mr. Doyle passed away in December of 1963.
