Ronald P. Werling won three individual titles at the conference meets and collected all-American laurels at the NCAA Cross-Country Championships, finishing 12th, 11th and 10th nationally. He and Ed Schneider are the only Bulldog cross country runners to have earned all-America honors three times. In the 1966 and 1967 NCAA meets, Werling finished second and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which gave him all-America track recognition. He is the athletic director at Indianola (Iowa) High School where he coached the cross country teams.
