Bob Haller played football for the Bulldogs in the mid-1950's. According to office records he was the second university football player to earn first-team All-American laurels. He was named to the 1958 Williamson National Rating System Team as a tackle, despite the fact that he broke his ankle in the next to last game of the season. Mr. Haller gained a big reputation for his tenacious play on defense and his bone-crushing blocks on offense. He was in a three-way tie for the 1958 MIAA Lineman of the Year. Mr. Haller graduated in 1959 and had a tryout with the Chicago Bears. He played professional football in the Canadian League in the summer of 1959. For the next four years, he taught physical education on the elementary school level. Then he moved to Texas, coaching football in junior high school at El Paso one year and at Irvin High School from 1962-69. Mr. Haller also coached baseball and track in Texas. In 1969 he returned to St. Louis coaching football, baseball and track at Central High School for the next decade. Mr. Haller received the Public High School League Coach of the Year honors in 1974-75. In addition to his coaching duties he served as an administrative assistant at Central. Mr. Haller died in 1980 from an apparent heart attack.
