In 1951 Glenn Cafer transferred to the university from Moberly Junior College where he was an honorable mention All-American guard on two teams which compiled a cumulative record of 50-8. In his two years as a Bulldog he received All-Conference recognition. After graduation Mr. Cafer served two years in the Marines as an officer and then returned to the university to earn a master's degree. In 1956 he went to Washington, Mo., to serve as head basketball coach for five years. His 1960-61 Washington team rolled up 34 consecutive wins and posted an overall record of 35-1. Mr. Cafer left Washington to become interim head basketball coach at Moorhead State College in Minnesota for one season, coach at Mehlville High School in St. Louis for one year, assistant basketball and head baseball coach at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, for three years and assistant basketball coach and freshman baseball coach at University of Missouri-Columbia for one season. He then moved to Topeka, Kan., to become head basketball coach and head golf coach at Washburn University. For the next 12 years his Ichabod basketball teams chalked up a record of 172-145 and made three trips to the NAIA national tournament. Mr. Cafer was the recipient of conference area and district Coach of the Year awards in basketball and golf. He served as chairman of the National Golf Tournament Committee. Mr. Cafer stepped up to the Washburn athletic directorship in 1979, serving in that capacity for four years. Since 1983 he has been golf coach and professor of physical education at Washburn and for the past four years he has been assistant basketball coach for the Lady Blues. Mr. Cafer is a member of the Moberly Area Junior College and Washburn University Athletic Halls of Fame.
