Mike Yancey (Eureka, Mo.), a walk-on to the Bulldog football team, was a student from 1980-86 at Truman. By the fifth game of his freshman year, Yancey was starting as an offensive center. He earned first-team all-MIAA recognition as a sophomore and senior and was second-team all-MIAA as a junior. The Bulldogs named him Outstanding Lineman his sophomore and senior years and he was a team captain his senior year. In 1983, Yancey was named to the Associated Press Little All-America second team. Yancey also participated in wrestling as a senior, finishing third in the Midwest Regional Meet. At the conclusion of his collegiate athletic career, he had professional football tryouts with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1984 and the Miami Dolphins and Birmingham Stallions in 1985. For the past 11 years, Yancey has been employed by Laclede Gas Company in St. Louis. He is currently a district superintendent of meter reading.
