In 1953 Bill Ausmus came to the university from Edina and established himself as a standout in basketball and track for the Bulldogs. Mr. Ausmus was a four-year letterman and three-year starter in basketball, earning first-team All-Conference and honorable mention All-American accolades. He was the MIAA conference-scoring leader in 1956. He still holds six school records for free throw shooting. During his career he helped the Bulldogs win three conference championships. As a member of the track team, he lettered four years and was the MIAA high hurdle champion in 1957. As a senior Mr. Ausmus received the Stickler Cup. After his graduation in 1957 he served in the Army for two years. When he returned to civilian life in 1959, he became athletic director and coach for eight years at Milan, Mo., which under his direction advanced to the state tournament for the first time. In 1967 Mr. Ausmus went to Trenton Junior College as athletic director, coach and instructor for four years, helping to build the athletic program. In 1971 he was appointed as Student Personnel Officer at the junior college, holding that position until 1979 when he became Dean of the junior college. He filled that position until 1986 when he was appointed as Special Assistant to the President. Mr. Ausmus held those responsibilities for a year before retiring in 1987. He is currently affiliated with an investment business.
