Dennis Sissom (Hazelwood, Mo.), a 1964 graduate of Truman, was a two-sport athlete at the University. In football, he earned all-MIAA honors as a defensive end and played on the 1960 and 1961 conference championship football teams. In track, Sissom took top honors in the shot put and discus and finished third in the javelin at the MIAA conference meet. As a senior, he was the javelin winner at the NCAA regional championships. After graduating in 1964, Sissom spent 10 seasons as Normandy High School's track coach. During that time, his team lost only three dual meets and recorded first, second and third place finishes in the conference. He was named the 1974 Conference Track and Field Coach of the Year, and in 1997, he was inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Sissom is currently assistant superintendent for the Hazelwood School District in St. Louis.
