Ray Mach

Ray Mach, a graduate of Bishop Noel High School in Hammond, Ind., served in the U.S. Navy and then attended Quincy College one year. He played football for the Hawks and was named the most valuable defensive back on the team. In 1952 Mr. Mach transferred to the university and played for three MIAA championship teams. He set a record for punt returns in 1952 when he averaged 10.3 yards for 18 returns. The following season, he earned first team All-Conference honors as a back and was fourth in MIAA scoring. After his graduation in 1955, he taught and coached five years in the Marshall School System. He then served as head coach four seasons at Marshall High School, directing the Owls to one conference championship and a 26-10 overall record. He also directed track four years, and his teams won two conference titles. Mr. Mach operated Ray Mach Athletic Goods from 1961-72; he founded Pro Gym, Inc. in1972 and contributed weightlifting equipment to the university. Mr. Mach served as president of Pro Gym, Inc. until his death in 1988.
