Lowell Wade

Lowell Wade entered the university in 1929 after an outstanding athletic career at Mountain Grove High School. He was a halfback on four Bulldog football teams, three of which won conference championships. Mr. Wade was team captain in his final season. Mr. Wade graduated from Southwest Missouri State in 1933 and coached one year at Pierce City. His football team was undefeated and the conference champion. He then moved to Monett for two years. His football team won two championships. Mr. Wade returned to Mountain Grove and directed two football conference championship teams in 1938 and 1939 and also coached in two Ozark Bowl games. In 1940 Mr. Wade joined the Missouri State High Patrol and served about 30 years. After his retirement from the patrol, he was a driver's education instructor in the Springfield Public Schools and later served as a security officer at Evangel College in Springfield. He died in 1970. Mr. Wade is the second member of the Wade family to be inducted into the Bulldog Hall of Fame. His brother, Maurice "Red" Wade, was a member of the 1983 charter class.
