In August of 1970 Craig O'Sadnick walked into the Bulldog football camp as a virtual unknown to the coaching staff. He was from Mendota High School in Illinois and Division I schools had overlooked him because of his size, 175 pounds. But it didn't take Craig O'Sadnick very long to show his ability. He was pressed into service as a freshman in the season opener because of an injury to a starting linebacker. He stayed in the lineup for the remainder of his four-year career starting and playing in every game. As a freshman he landed on the MIAA All-Conference honorable mention list. As a sophomore he was first team All-Conference and finished second in the balloting for league MVP. Again as a junior and senior he was All-Conference. In fact he was unanimous All-League in his final three seasons as a Bulldog. During his career he averaged ten tackles per game. O'Sadnick was captain of the 1973 Bulldog squad and was a recipient of the Stickler Cup as the most outstanding senior athlete at the university in 1974. Three times he earned honorable mention Little All-America recognition. His opponents described him as a quick and fast linebacker with great instincts and a player who loved to hit people. After graduation in 1974 he had a free-agent tryout with the St. Louis Football Cardinals and was eventually cut by the NFL team. That same year he joined and was a starting free safety for the Chicago Fire of the World Football League. That league folded the next year. After his professional football playing days, he joined Windler & Sons, Inc., a beer wholesaler in St. Charles and was vice president of sales for the company.
