Jack Hammock, an athletic standout from Hannibal, was one of three Hammock brothers who attended this university and competed in Bulldog athletics. Mr. Hammock lettered four years in football and track and participated two seasons in basketball. Mr. Hammock was an honorable mention All-Conference selection as a freshman and sophomore as a two-way end and made the first All-MIAA teams as a junior and senior. During his career the Bulldogs didn't pass the football often. But as a senior he caught 18 of 19 passes the quarterback intended for him. The 19th throw sailed over his head. Mr. Hammock was football co-captain as a senior. In track he was the conference outdoor high-jump champion in his final campaign. Mr. Hammock was the recipient of the Stickler Cup as a senior. After graduation in 1959 he served as assistant football and head track coach for one year at Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo. He then moved to Quincy, Ill., where he has lived for the past three decades. Mr. Hammock was been involved with Quincy football at one time or another for a period of 15 years. He has been involved with Quincy basketball, helping coach teams that finished second and third in the state of Illinois. He has also coached track for 10 years and taught drivers education on the high school level.
