Trusten McArtor

Trusten McArtor came to the university from New Boston, Mo. From 1928-31 he was a guard on the Bulldog football team. Three times he was named to the All-MIAA first team. As a senior he served as a team captain. Mr. McArtor was a guard on the Bulldog basketball teams during the same period. In 1931 he was selected for the Stickler cup, the second recipient for that award after it was established in 1930. He was also a catcher on the Bulldog baseball team. Mr. McArtor started his coaching and teaching career at Centralia, Mo. after graduation. He was reputed to be an outstanding teacher of mathematics. He started the sport of football at Centralia and coached the other sports for a year before moving to Shelbina the following year. He then coached football at Webster Groves for seven years. During World War II he was in the personnel department and served as recreation director at McDonald Aircraft, then called Curtis Wright. After the war he went to Maplewood High School as football coach and athletic director. During that period of time Mr. McArtor attended Washington University in St. Louis and received an M.A. degree from the University of Missouri. He then served as baseball coach and assistant football coach at Southwest High School in St. Louis and also taught at McKinley High School. Because of an accident in the mid-1950's he had to retire from teaching and coaching in 1957. Mr. McArtor continued to live in Webster Groves until his death in January of 1977.
