Wayne Ventling was a three-sport standout for Webster City (Iowa) High School before enrolling at Saint Olaf (Minn.) College. During his freshman year, Mr. Ventling transferred to the university and began a distinguished track career. He earned All-American honors as a member of the 1972-74 Bulldog mile relay teams, which finished fifth, second and fifth in the NCAA College Division championships. Mr. Ventling's mile relay teams won three MIAA outdoor championships and two indoor championships. He was also a member of the university's record holding distance medley team, which is the only Bulldog relay quartet that has won a championship at the Texas Relays. Mr. Ventling helped the Bulldogs capture three conference indoor and three conference outdoor titles and place third in the 1972 NCAA meet, the highest finish ever for a Bulldog track team. They also came in 10th at the 1973 NCAA championships. While attending the university, Mr. Ventling received the R.E. Valentine Memorial Scholarship award, which goes to the university student-athlete with the highest grade-point average. He graduated magna cum laude in 1974. He received a Master's degree in 1974 and a Doctor's degree in Osteopathy from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1978. Dr. Ventling went on to serve a residency in radiology at Carswell Air Base, Fort Worth, Texas and has been a radiologist in Corpus Christi, Texas.
