Thomas E. Hayes was an unanimous all-MIAA first-team choice and was named the conference MVP three times. Hayes received the Associated Press Little All-America honorable recognition twice. He was named to the first all-league team for three consecutive years, the only player from the MIAA to earn that distinction. Hayes quarterbacked two MIAA championship teams and was chosen to the CoSIDA Academic All-America second team. Hayes attended law school at Missouri-Kansas City and has his own law firm in Pittsburg, Kan.
