Mr. Romberg played the sport for four seasons in the late 1960's and won more matches than other tennis players in the history of the sport at the university. He was the MIAA conference champion in singles and doubles all four years. He was a key player on a team that came within a point of winning the NCAA College Division national championship in 1969. Mr. Romberg was undefeated in his first two years as a Bulldog and finished his career with a 56-6 record. He was awarded the Stickler Cup and also received the R.E. Valentine Scholarship. After graduation in the spring of 1969 he entered the Air Force for four years and was recognized as Airman of the Quarter. After returning to civilian life, he taught tennis in Phoenix, AZ and at the Pergosa Racquet Club in Colorado. Mr. Romberg has been the recipient of many awards, including Tennis Pro of the Year this year in the Inner-Mountain Division for the U.S. Pro Tennis Association and Player of the Year this year in the over 35-year group.
