Chauncey Simpson, who was raised in Bosworth, Mo., transferred to the university from the University of Missouri in 1926 and was a triple letter winner in football, basketball and track. Mr. Simpson was an All-MIAA halfback in 1927 and one of the leading scorers in the conference. After his graduation with a B.S. degree in 1928 he joined the Bulldog staff helping Don Faurot with football and basketball and directing the track program. During the time he was assistant football coach the Bulldogs captured six MIAA championships and they either won outright or shared two conference track championships. During the 1934-35 school year he went to Missouri with Don Faurot as football backfield coach and head track coach. Between 1943-45 he was head football coach directing Missouri to the Big Six title and a Cotton Bowl date with Texas in 1945. Mr. Simpson left football coaching in the mid-1950's but continued to coach golf at Missouri. He guided the 1949 golf team to a championship. Mr. Simpson was an accomplished amateur golfer his entire life, winning a number of titles at the Columbia Country Club. During his tenure, he was a professor in the Department of Physical Education at Missouri. He retired in 1965 and moved to Green Valley, Ariz.. He died in April of 1970.
