Dr. Howard Gross, a graduate of Colby (Kan.) High School, attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine from which he graduated in 1940. For a number of years, he practiced osteopathy in Kirksville and was the physician for Bulldog athletic teams. Dr. Gross was past president of the Missouri Osteopathic Association and a national officer and lecturer in manipulation in the Academy of Applied Osteopathy. He also taught two classes at KCOM. Dr. Gross was a member of the Kirksville City Council, serving as mayor pro-tem. He was president of the El Kadir Shrine Club, a member of the Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, an officer in Kirksville Kiwanis Club, a ruling elder in his church and active in other civic organizations. In addition to enjoying college athletics and professional baseball, Dr. Gross was an avid hunter and fisherman and was active in scouting for many years. He died in 1986.
