Meyer was the 141-pound NCAA Division II National Champion in 2004 joining only Curd Alexander (1968) as Truman Wrestlers to win individual titles. Meyer was a two-time All-American (2003 & 2004), a four-time national qualifier and owns the Bulldog all-time career wins record with 130. He averaged over 32 wins a season with a high of 34 in 2005. In 2003, his career reached new heights as he put together the best year of any Truman wrestler in the history of the school. His record was 32-3 including three individual tournament wins and won the 2003 Midwest Regional Championship hosted by the Bulldogs. Meyer defeated All-American Brad Russell (Wisconsin-Parkside) in the semifinals and returning 141-lbs. National Champion Matt Dodgen (Central Oklahoma) 6-2 for the regional championship. At the nationals, Meyer rolled into the championship match, with three straight wins but lost in the finals to Shane Barnes (Adams College) 15-3. Driven by the loss the prior year, Meyer put together another outstanding year and complied a record of 30-6. Finishing third in the 2004 Midwest Regional it pitted him against three regional champions in the 141-pound bracket, including the current and two future National Champions. Meyer was all business during the tournament, winning his first match 6-0, second by fall and third by major decision. The Championship Match came down to a rematch between Meyer and Barnes with Meyer winning 6-3 for the title. Merrick's college career record was 130-26 with over half his victories resulting in bonus match points. He never lost a home match in Pershing Arena in his entire career and has placed in every college tournament he had wrestled in. After graduating Meyer joined The Boeing Company where he works in the International Business Finance Office. He returns to Truman every year with members of the Boeing Team to talk about his college experience at and recruit college graduates. He was inducted into the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in March as part of this year's national championship meet.
