James Chevalier, a native of Kirksville, was a four-year football letterman from 1924-1927. He was a second team All-MIAA end in 1925 and 1926 and first team All-Conference selection in 1927. James was the Bulldog team captain in 1927. He was always a dependable offensive and defensive player. A statement in the 1924 Echo Yearbook stated "the opponents didn't run plays around Chevy's end, even though he was only a freshman at that time." After graduation, James served as high school principal at Mountain Grove, principal at Moberly Junior High School, football coach at Moberly Junior College and Dean of Moberly Junior College. At the time of his death in 1963, Mr. Chevalier was principal of Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo.
